REC 13 JUL 17
GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONGKONG. 25th. May, 1917.
385
Sir.
With reference to the correspondence noted
in the margin, I have the honour to submit particulars as shown
in the enclosure hereto of a house at the Peak the property of a German Firm in liquidation, which will be sold by auction in about two and a half months' time.
The Director of Public Works values the
property at 844,000 for which sum it was bought by the present
owner in 1904.
I am of opinion that the house would form a suitable residence, under the proposed system of renting houses to Government Officials, for a senior officer such as the Chief Justice or the Colonial Secretary, and I would ask your authority to purchase it at auction for a sum not exceed- -ing $36,000.
For the particular purpose in view it is
not worth more to the Government than that sum,
I shall be glad to learn your decision on
this subject by telegraph.
I have the honour to be, Sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
B
Governor,&c.
RIGHT HONOURABLE
WALTER LONG, M.P
